Pseudoscorpione Neobisium carcinoides
|
|
At only 2-3mm in length these tiny
invertebrates can only be detected through careful searching. Neobisium
carcinoides is a very widespread species in leaf litter in woodlands and
other places. This was one of two found by sieving leaf litter in woodland near Hampton Loade. SIG field trip, February 2006. Pseudoscorpiones hunt other small invertebrates by walking around with their claws held out in front of them. When they come into contact with prey they inject poison through their piercing claws. They are harmless to humans. |
