ORANGE LADYBIRD
Halyzia 16-guttata

The Orange Ladybird photographed here, was one of over fifty found on a Birch tree in a Shrewsbury garden. In recent years it has been recorded at a few other locations in Shropshire.

Orange Ladybirds have been considered as a scarce and local insect for many years. In recent years they have increased in range and frequency. Orange Ladybirds are unusual amongst the ladybirds, as the adults and larvae feed on mildew on the underside of various broadleaved trees. Most other ladybirds feed on aphids.
