Lavender Beetle -
Chrysolina americana  - a leaf beetle

This brilliantly coloured leaf beetle is a potential pest of lavender in Britain. It has only recently arrived in this country and it is feared that in warmer counties it could become a serious garden pest of lavender. The beetle in the photograph was found in Shrewsbury in 2005. It is not considered that it will be able to establish itself in Shropshire, so this specimen probably came in on nursery stock.
