Green Hairstreak Butterfly

Although it is not encountered very often, this is probably a reasonably common butterfly in Shropshire. The Green Hairstreak often occurs with its larval food-plant Broom.

This fine female specimen was photographed in an old quarry near Wellington in the vicinity of Broom.

May 2005.
