Yellow- Belted Hoverfly
Chrysotoxum bicinctum - a hoverfly

Yellow and black hoverflies are a familiar sight in gardens and elsewhere. The yellow-Belted Hoverfly Chrysotoxum bicinctum is an uncommon representative of this group of flies. It's larvae live underground and eat root-aphids.

The Yellow-Belted Hoverfly turns up in many gardens and although it is never numerous it wil occur in most localities. This is a very striking fly with bright lemon-yellow markings against a black ground colour. Its two broad belts of yellow distinguish it from all other yellow and black hoverfies.
